EVENING AT THE BALLPARK

July 30, 2022

Our third annual chapter baseball game outing at Segra Stadium, home of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, was another resounding success. Not only was it a big win for all our chapter members, their family members and friends who had a great time, but for the home team who beat the visiting Carolina Mudcats 3-2 in a 9-inning thriller.

Once again we had the affair on the Party Deck which offers protection from the sun, and is equipped with ceiling fans and offers several sitting and viewing options. Everyone was pleasantly comfortable and cheerful.

A picnic buffet was part of the fare and it included hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, potato salad, bake beans, watermelon, cookies, and soft drinks. A “pay-as-you-go” bar selling adult beverages was also available.

Our chapter was recognized on the stadium scoreboard along with other groups attending the ball game. We all whooped and hollered as our chapter was introduced on the scoreboard.

Tad Davis, our Event Coordinator, arranged for all attendees to receive a Fayetteville Woodpeckers challenge coin and a raffle ticket good for a drawing after each inning. The giveaways included hats, balls, pins and other assorted baseball souvenirs.

COL (Ret) Robert Covalucci and his wife Kathryn were introduced as new chapter members. Moreover, one of our guests, BG (Ret) Jay Gothard committed to join.

It was a fantastic baseball outing with family, friends, and each other! America’s favorite pastime certainly held true for all of us that evening at the ballpark.

Big kudos to Tad and Diane Davis who did a superb job in arranging and managing the whole affair!
