MEMORIAL DAY CEREMONY

May 27, 2024

The customary annual ceremony honoring our war dead was held at Fayetteville’s Freedom Memorial Park on Memorial Day 27 May 2024.

Chapter 1st Vice President George Bond and chapter member Tad Davis, the current DeMeter Award Recipient, jointly presented the memorial wreath at the Global War on Terror monument, a memorial honoring our brave military men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the global fight against terrorism since 9/11.

The Global War on Terror monument was donated to the community by the Cape Fear Chapter and dedicated on Memorial Day 2018. Since then, the Cape Fear Chapter has had the honor of laying a wreath on it every year on Memorial Day.

This year the chapter thanks Mr. Jeremy Edgerton of the North Carolina Marble and Granite Company for donating his services in installing a new dedication plaque on the Global War on Terror Monument. The original plaque installed in 2018 was vandalized and ripped off the monument last year.

The chapter also thanks Mrs. Linda Sanderson for her donation of a new hand-crafted memorial wreath. The original wreath which Mrs. Sanderson also made and donated in 2018 was showing its age.

The featured speaker for the event was US Army Brigadier General Christine Rummel, Mobilization Assistant to the Commanding General, US Army Cyber Command.

Several chapter members paid their respects to our fallen heroes by their presence at the ceremony.
