General Membership Meeting and ROTC Scholarship Awards Luncheon

The fifth annual ROTC Scholarship Awards Luncheon included the presentation of nine scholarships as follows: Senior ROTC Cadets Luisa F. Uribe, Methodist University; Kevin M. Atkins and Andrew C. Moreno, Fayetteville State University; Devon M. Girdwood, UNC Pembroke; and, Chad S. Speas, Campbell University. Junior ROTC Cadets William R. Tilley and Harmony R. Jacobs, Hoke County HS; Ciro M. Quintero, Terry Sanford HS; and, Helen N. Jarquin, Union HS.
Cadet Uribe of Methodist University was the winner of the Meinhardt Senior ROTC Scholarship; and Cadet Tilley of Hoke County HS was the winner of the Bill Dadek Memorial JROTC Scholarship valued at $2,000 each. All other scholarships were valued at $1,500 each.
Taking part in the presentation of scholarships to the ROTC cadets included: LTC (Ret) James Shutt, Deputy for Operations, 4th Brigade ROTC, US Army Cadet Command, Fort Bragg and the keynote speaker for the event, and Chapter President Watkins. Mrs. Maureen Dadek assisted in the presentation of the 2019 Bill Dadek Memorial JROTC Scholarship to Cadet Tilley.
Scholarship recipients were accompanied by parents, family members, ROTC instructors, school principals or their representatives, too numerous to list here.
Art Macaltao was the winner of the 50/50 raffle; his take: $48.
Chaplain Tim Atkinson, accompanied by Ms. Akemi on the keyboards, sang beautiful renditions of the National Anthem and God Bless America. Ms. Akemi played background music during lunch.
