Chapter President Juan Chavez and his wife Maria attended the MOAA Annual Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona to accept a 5-Star Levels of Excellence Award for the Cape Fear Chapter.

Juan accepted the 5-star award from MOAA Chairman General (Ret) John J. Sheehan, USMC and MOAA President Lt Gen (Ret) Dana Atkins, USAF, at the MOAA Levels of Excellence Award dinner held in the Arizona Grand Resort & Spa.

Juan's nephew, David Marquez and his wife Liz, local residents of Phoenix, attended the dinner as guests of the Chavez's.

Other North Carolina Chapters receiving awards were: NC Council (5-Star); Coastal Carolina (4-Star); Charlotte-Metrolina (5-Star); Southeastern NC (5-Star); Tarheel Central (4-Star); Triangle (5-Star); Western NC (5-Star) and, High Country (5-Star).
