Donation to the Fort Bragg USO

1st Vice President Art Rodriguez presents a $500 check to Ms. Renee Lane the Director of the Fort Bragg USO as a donation from the Cape Fear Chapter, MOAA in support of the USO’s work on behalf of our service members and their families stationed at or transiting Fort Bragg.

Chapter President Chavez presents SGM Carl R. Youngs, Chief Medical NCO, 82d Airborne Division Surgeon Section with four $50 dinner gift cards donated by the Cape Fear Chapter for award to the top two teams in the All American Top Medic Competition held on 8 October 2014. The top 2-medic teams in this grueling competition will advance to the All Army Best Medic Competition to be held at Camp Bullis, Texas on 5-7 November 2014.

NC National Guard OCS Graduation - August 2014

The 139th Regiment (North Carolina-Regional Training Institute) held its graduation ceremony for Officer Candidate Class 56 and Accelerated Officer Candidate Class 16 on Saturday 23 August 2014.

A total of twenty new Second Lieutenants graduated in a ceremony held in the JFK Auditorium on Fort Bragg. Eighteen were in the regular OCS class and two were in the accelerated OCS class.

At the rehearsal on 22 August, Chapter Vice President LTC (Ret) Bill Dadek, assisted by Chapter member LTC (Ret) Marty Williams, presented a set of Gold Bars and a 1-year free membership in MOAA to each graduate. Bill Dadek then gave a short talk on the benefits of MOAA membership.

Both Bill and Marty attended the graduation on 23 August. The guest speaker was the North Carolina Deputy Adjutant General, MG James H. Trogdon, III. The ceremony was officiated by the Regimental Commander Colonel Lawrence R. Powell.

Donation to the Old Glory Legacy Foundation

Miss Rachel Medley, Founder and Executive Director of the Old Glory Legacy Foundation, accepts a $500 donation from the Cape Fear Chapter presented by President Chavez at the general membership meeting and luncheon held at The Mash House Restaurant on 28 March 2014. The Old Legacy Foundation is a horse farm operated by Miss Medley that brings military service members and their families together to build strong family relationships and lasting memories through outdoor activities. It is a non-profit enterprise that is totally dependent on donations for its operation.

Donation to National Sojourners, Inc.

LTC (Ret) Andy Drenkhahn, a CFC member and Project Manager for the National Sojourners Spirit of America Youth Leadership Conference accepts a $600 check from Chapter President Chavez to help fund the attendance of a worthy high school student at the July 17-20, 2014 conference at the Valley Forge Freedoms Foundation, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

The students are selected by their high school counselors in conjunction with their JROTC instructors. One of the selection criteria is that students selected must be making a difference in their communities.

Andy in turn presented President Chavez a National Sojourners certificate designating the Cape Fear Chapter as a "Patriot of '76" for its support of the program for the past 7 years.

North Carolina National Guard OCS Graduation

The North Carolina National Guard Military Academy located on Fort Bragg, held its graduation for Officer Candidate Class 55 and Accelerated Officer Candidate Class 24 on August 24. 2013. Nineteen new second lieutenants assigned to units of the North Carolina National Guard graduated.

The guest speaker was Brigadier General Kenneth A. Beard, Assistant State Adjutant General – Sustainment. The day prior at their graduation rehearsal, Art Rodriguez, 1st Vice President and Bill Dadek, 3rd Vice President of the chapter, spoke to the graduates about MOAA. They presented the new officers with a set of gold bars and a one year membership to MOAA. After the graduation, Bill Dadek was able to share information with BG Beard about MOAA's initiative to recognize the new officers of the National Guard.
