Cape Fear MOAA donates to the Fisher House at Ft Bragg

Cape Fear Chapter Chaplain Tim Atkinson presented a check from CFC MOAA to Mr John Miller, Manager of the Fisher House at Ft Bragg. Mr Miller said, "It will help a lot!"

On June 26, 2025, Cape Fear Chapter member Joe Tichich presented a $1,200 donation to the local USO. Accepting the donation was Kelli Willoughby – Executive Director USO North Carolina.
Joe Tichich, who serves as the Chapter’s USO Representative, is also an active USO volunteer.
According to Robert Whitman (USO Center Operations)], the donation will be used to provide meals and essential supplies at the USO Center located at the Soldiers Support Center on Fort Bragg, as well as at the USO facility at the Fayetteville Regional Airport.

Our Chapter check donation was delivered today to Phil Harris, Executive Director, American Red Cross, Sandhills Chapter by 1st Vice President, George Bond. Phil assured us the money would be put to use locally for our military and civilians in need of assistance by the Red Cross.
Leslie Soto-Flores received the MOAA medal from Cape Fear MOAA Chapter President Greg Williamson at the Lumberton HS JROTC Awards Ceremony.
Leslie was the BN CDR and the Student Body President.
Chapter President Greg Williamson presents a check for $1,200.00 to Jeremy Hester, Executive Director of the Fort Bragg Armed Services YMCA. The donation is the Cape Fear Chapter’s annual contribution to the YMCA to restock its food pantry.
A public ceremony to honor our veterans was held at Triton High School in Erwin, North Carolina. The ceremony was planned and executed by the Triton High School Army Junior ROTC Cadets under the tutelage of Major (Ret) Brian Baggett, the Senior Army Instructor at the school. In attendance representing the Cape Fear Chapter was 3rd Vice President LTC (Ret) Marty Williams.
Chapter President Rich Underwood presents an initial donation of $1,000 to the Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity Veterans Build a new sponsorship the Cape Fear Chapter has undertaken.
By sponsoring Veterans Build our chapter will help provide volunteer, homeownership and employment opportunities to U.S. veterans, military service members and their families. Every dollar donated through The Veterans Build campaign goes directly to the build cost of a Veteran's home.
Accepting the donation is Rick Callaway, Chief, Operations Officer, Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity. Rick is a retired US Army Chief Warrant Officer W4 and a member of the Cape Fear Chapter as well.

The donation represents our chapter’s annual contribution to the American Red Cross local chapter servicing our active military and their families in the Fort Liberty area.

Chapter Vice President Marty Williams presented a check in the amount of $1,000.00 to the USO Center at Fort Liberty, NC on behalf of the Cape Fear Chapter, Military Officers Association of America (CFC, MOAA).
Accepting the check was Mr. Robert Whitman, Center Operations Specialist, Fort Liberty USO. Witnessing the presentation were several soldiers who were at the USO at the time partaking of the services offered.

In the absence of the Fisher House Manager John Miller, due to unexpected illness, staff assistant Rachel Weatherd (not pictured) accepted delivery on behalf of the Fisher House. The donation represents the chapter's annual donation to the facility.

Chapter Chaplain Greg Williamson (R), brought greetings from the Cape Fear Chapter and a donation of $1,000 for the Fort Liberty Armed Forces YMCA Food Pantry.
Executive Director of the Armed Services YMCA Jeremy Hester accepted the grant and provided a tour of the facilities along with an overview of their service member support programs. Director Hester thanked our chapter for the generous gift and offered to host a tour and overview for the executive committee.

Accepting the check was Mr. Jimmy Covas the center manager. Mr. Covas stated that the USO could not do the work that they do for our troops and their families without the support from organizations such as CFC, MOAA.
