Global War on Terrorism Memorial Monument Dedication
Memorial Day 2018
The new Global War on Terrorism Memorial was officially dedicated on this rainy Memorial Day, 28 May 2018, at Freedom Memorial Park, Fayetteville, NC. The dedication plaque was unveiled by President Chavez, General Dan McNeill, and Don Talbot, Chairman of the Freedom Memorial Park Steering Committee.
The monument commemorating our brave men and women who have laid down their lives fighting terrorism worldwide since 9/11 was made possible by the consideration and generosity of our chapter members who collectively donated over $25,000 to defray the cost of the monument.
Several chapter members took part in the ceremony. The invocation was delivered by Chapter Chaplain Tim Atkinson. The keynote speaker was General Dan K. McNeill, a veteran of several global war on terrorism campaigns.
Laying a memorial wreath on the monument was President Chavez, assisted by chapter members James Wanovich and Jon Pendell, both veterans of multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan since 9/11.
This was a historic event for our chapter in that it is our first tangible contribution to our local community. A noticeable representation of the Cape Fear Chapter attended the ceremony despite the inclement weather.
Printing of the event program was donated by the Cape Fear Chapter; a copy can be viewed at download below.
