General Membership Meeting and JROTC Scholarship Awards Luncheon

The second annual JROTC Scholarship Awards Luncheon included the presentation of the first Bill Dadek Memorial JROTC Scholarship, a $1,500 scholarship, to Cadet Aliyah Jordan of Terry Sanford High School. Two other $1,000 scholarships were presented to Cadet Christian Cortazar of South View High School, and Cadet Patricia Gonzalez of Union High School.
All scholarship recipients and their parents, other family members, and/or ROTC instructors attended the event.
Taking part in the presentation of scholarships to the JROTC cadets included: The Honorable Chris V. Rey, Mayor of Spring Lake and the keynote speaker for the luncheon, and Chapter President Chavez. Mrs. Maureen Dadek took part in the presentation of the Bill Dadek Memorial JROTC Scholarship plaque.
Five new members were introduced and welcomed to the chapter: Don Carter, Brian Keith, Bill Dooner, Bob Schwirzke, and Chris Rey (Mayor of Spring Lake). George Bond was welcomed back after a long absence due to illness.
Former Chapter Presidents Bob Smoot (1996-1997) and Art Rodriguez (2001, 2005-2006) were recognized for their leadership contributions and presented with engraved chapter coins mounted on coin locks as tokens of appreciation.
Argie Rodriguez was presented an engraved chapter coin by President Chavez as a token of appreciation for her work with table decorations at all of our meetings.
Chaplain Tim Atkinson, accompanied by Helen Smith on keyboard, sang beautiful renditions of the National Anthem and God Bless America.
